Thanks to the wet and miserable weather, we have been spending more time indoors catching up on series. One that has gotten our attention is Suits. 

Quick plot summary - Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) is a superstar litigator at a New York law firm with a sleek and precise wardrobe to match. Looking for a new recruit, the cunning attorney ends up hiring Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). Ross is an out-of-the-box genius and college-dropout whose prior gig was taking LSAT or law school entrance exams for students. The charismatic dude even passed the New York bar exam on a dare. 

Why we love this show well as Mark Twain said, “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” And in the world of Suits, these super sharp power duds seem to define each stylish character. “The suits are like suits of armor,” explains Adams. “It’s crazy. I get to work in my shorts and flip flops. But when you put that suit on, your posture changes. You stand straighter. You present something different.”

However what is the standout in this show is how with each new episode you see what a boss Harvey Specter is in his Tom Ford suits. Specter truly is the epitome of high-life living, cruising around New York in a new chauffeur driven Mercedes S-Class and wearing “$12,000 suits”.

Basically, he dresses like we would expect modern day men in power to dress– widespread and cutaway collars dress shirts, thicker tie-knots , double vented suit jackets, and suits that aren’t slim, but just very well tailored and he likes a  3-piece suit every now and then.

Harvey’s suit game is tight. He has the kind of swagger that can bully a witness and or charm any female with a pulse. He’s a man of style tailored with impeccable precision. Is there anything more intimidating than a man who is as brilliant as he is well dressed?

In one episode Mike Ross asks, “What does it matter how much I spend on suits?” Specter replies, “People respond to how you dress so like it or not this is what you have to do.” 

Most of us are probably more of Mike Ross in terms of the way we power dress, but as we grow older, move up the work ladder and our bank balances increase, Harvey Specter would be the way to go.

Suits has proven to be not only a stylish show, but a well written one, full of wit, risk, surprise, and a serpentine of character dynamics! And we think we can all learn a little something from Harvey when it comes to dressing well.
